300 word culture magazine

The newly come up rapper 'Kaspa', hits the charts with his new single 'Garden'. Kaspa's rise to hip-hop fame is no surprise. His ascent up the charts proves sing-rap has found its rightful place once again with its recent popularity. The song is still gaining views and streams rapidly but as of now it has already reached 10 million views on YouTube, 15 million streams on Spotify, 12 million on iTunes and has made it on the billboard hot 100 at number 5 only within two weeks of being released. The man behind the music 'Kieran Barnett' was born in London, England in 2001 and the lyrics used within his music stems from his past experiences from growing up within the sometimes violent and hectic environment of Croydon as-well as previous relationships.

In our featured interview with Kaspa, we asked how he went about on creating his unique sing-rap style and how he felt when seeing react the overwhelmingly positive response from fans worldwide, he told us - “Most aspiring artists nowadays must create their own style and identity to blow up in this industry instead of following the trends” says Kaspa, whose particular style of sing-rap has become most popular and synonymous with teenagers and young adults both male and female. “And I always say, ‘Just have fun with it, don't be a try hard” This is to be expected from the 17 year-old singer, rapper and songwriter, born Kieran Barnett, who unexpectedly stepped into the spotlight this year.  His current hit 'Garden' is described to be make listeners feel emotional but relaxed. The song is about a souring relationship that Kaspa had within his life: "Rockstar lifestyle, might just die tonight, If I was down and had nobody, would you sacrifice?"

Aside  from its emotional lyricism, the songs meaning rests in its personal connection to the audience, as the lost relationship he describes in the song relates to many of the listeners and they prefer the relaxed tones of his music. Kaspa is currently on tour in Europe and his opening show will take place within London, UK. He is also working on new material for his follow-up single or album. His new music will reflect the times when he had fun in life, because he feels he should attempt to appeal to a different side of the listeners emotions. "I have more clarity,” he says. “I feel to explain the good times in life with friends and past girlfriends". "I feel I have to be clearer and tackle new things straight on instead of pushing them away."

Tide print advert analysis

Analysis

The layout and design of the of the print advertisement includes a main image of a woman with the Tide product along with secondary images of women with machine mashings and washing clothes which is the first thing the viewers will see and relate the product to, along with a bold and red masthead/title, which is bright red and catches the viewers attention.  Their is also clear repetition of buzz words such as the brand name Tide along with multiple slogans and tagline, this stands out and helps the viewers remember the product, especially if its catchy.

Introduced In 1946. Tide was first introduced in the United states. They gave customers a free detergent with a washing machine. It was the number one product in its core supermarket. After the war many people wanted to rebuild and start looking forward to a brighter future by moving on from the war. New Technology- Proliferation to technology happened which is an advancement to things, but at that time it was mainly a advancement to technology. When things like advertisements happened it was mainly targeted to the upper and middle class and who were white seeing as they had the most money back then.

Women in this poster are represented mainly as an house wife seeing as she's wearing a pin up top, and her hair and clothes are what house wives usually wore back then. Her red lipstick signifies a multiple of things, it could signify love, it could even denote a sexual vibe which is all aimed at the product tide. The women is hugging the product tide and her eyes are fluctuated on the product as well which symbolises her love and need for tide, but they go off which denotes the idea that she dreaming about the product. The word ‘Tide’ is used to represent the washing away of all the bad germs from not only the clothes but from after the war and after all the horrible things that happened in it.

The representation of gender that are being shown in this poster are of women and how they are represented and signified as house wife's. They have used this stereotype by dressing her in clothes that society would normally associate with women being housewife's. Back in the 50’s women who shown that much skin would be seen as a bit of a tart, and the bright red lipstick that she is wearing would also signify that representation. With women seeing this poster and the product ‘Tide’ they would inspire to be represented like that and how confident this women is on doing that advertisement.

The mode of address In this poster is that its clean and that it gets the jobs done, this is done by the repetition of words like ‘Clean’ and ‘White’. The use of the secondary picture of the woman with the washing machine represents the cleanliness of the product. The women in this poster is not only targeting this product to other women but to men as well, seeing as if men saw this in the 50’s they would want their wife to be like that as well so its targeted at them to buy it as well.

Statement of Aims

Statement of Aims - Music Video

Song Options -

Trippie Redd - Uka Uka
Playboi Carti - Love Hurts
XXXTentacion - Everybody Dies in there nightmares
XXXTentacion - Carry on
Juice Wrld - Scared of Love
Juice Wrld - Long Gone
Juice Wrld - Let me Know (My chosen song)
Lil Skies - Cloudy Skies
Lil Skies - Garden

Firstly, I intend on using the song 'Garden' by Lil Skies for my music video. I chose this song out of the multiple options as I thought this song especially would be appropriate and fit the criteria of the song not already having a music video and being longer then 3 minutes (3:03). I also enjoy this song and the artist Lil Skies personally which is also a big factor to why i chose this song.

Furthermore, when it comes to the production of my music video, i will be using my iphone 6 to film all scenes for the video as i feel the camera is more then adequate to capture video. The locations in which the scenes i plan to film include a park, alleyway, car park (rooftop, inside and staircase) and forest. I specifically chose these locations in relation to the song i have chosen as i feel these locations would fit the relaxed tone of the song. I also picked locations that were accessible, the amount of locations I've stated exceed the criteria of 3 and i hope to utilise all or most of these locations to fit this criteria. In Addition, the apparel i will be wearing will consist of 3 or more different outfits across the scenes to keep the video interesting within every cut to different scenes to capture the audiences attention throughout, this also relates with the amount of locations i've chosen.

When filming the video I will film all the scenes myself. I also plan to use certain camera techniques i wish to use within my video. I intend on using multiple camera techniques for this video and first of all i decided to focus on camera movement techniques as this is what can make the music video effective or not in presenting the mood of the song, some of these techniques will be well known however, some might be sourced from tips and advise from actual music video producers. The camera movement techniques i will use are: Action shot (matching the camera movement to the tempo of the song or the movements of the artist themselves), In and out shot (moving away and toward the artist), Semi Circle (moving left and right around the artist but not all the way around), Full Circle (Circle all around the artist) and Tracking Shot (any angle following the artist).

The narrative of my music video will be my main star being haunted by his past self in physical form due to a dark past but he changed has ways and at the end defeats his dark past and is freed to start a new.

The Fall & Luther Comparison

In The Fall it uses many camera shots such as close-ups, long-shots, pov shots, god perspective shots and tracking shots. The editing of the camera angles matches the pace of the slow narrative. The mis en scene of this series is dark in tone and is much more serious then luther. Furthermore, in the fall the villain is shown to be more attractive, normal and human rather then just a evil and unattractive person with no regard for life, this is due to the villain being revealed to have a family with two young children. This somewhat makes the audience sympathise with this villain however, the audience still have to see him as a villain due to his violent acts and crimes that the audience know he has committed. Luther also uses close-ups, long-shots and tracking shots. however, instead of it being slow paced, the editing follows the action the character is in and is fast paced. Also, unlike the more humanely portrait murderer in the fall, in Luther the villain is shown to be a heartless person who has no regard for life, she is intelligent, deceptive and is more discrete with her crimes rather the killer from the fall who is not discrete and is more aggressive and direct rather then plotting his murder to try prevent him getting caught. In Luther, the actor Idris Elba is the main protagonist of the story being the investigator, this is iconography as he is a well known respected actor which will draw an audience in to watch it. In the Fall, iconography is shown mostly through the murderer in this show, this is because he is the well known actor Jamie Dornan who is commonly regarded as being handsome, which again relates to the idea of him being the unexpected villain of the story.

My favourite genre is horror as i enjoy being frightened and afraid (thrill seeker). This sense of danger is thrilling. Or science fiction because its very captivating and interesting to understand the fictional universes created using science. My least favourite would be romance as it bores me and does not give me any sort of satisfaction as i am not able to relate to the characters situations.

In film production, the pre-credit scene is the section of the film which is shown before the opening or closing credits are shown.

Charity Advertisement Analysis

Save the children ad

The visual codes used in the ad consist of the way the girl changed in her apparel and physical state in each shot, the shots represent the days of the year in seconds, this is seen in how it begins with her birthday and ends with her birthday. Furthermore, in each second of shot her appearance changes in some way as she gets more depressed throughout mentally whilst also physically becoming more dirtier and her clothing and hair becoming more distressing. The Audio codes heard throughout the ad are very effective as it gives us subtle quiet tones in the beginning of the ad with happy tones such as a children laughing and a warm-family atmosphere which then progresses to darker tone sounds of screams and explosions which contrasts against the beginning and slowly twists the story, disturbing the viewer making it more impactful mentally, positioning them to actually care as it gives them a glimpse of what their home could be like and what it could turn into such as in the ad, however, near to the end when the viewers realise this is actually happening but instead in Syria, which in turn then makes them realise the irony of the situation and their fear in the possible outbreak of war in their home country and how this is already occurring in Syria and the ads persuades them to help support the cause as if they were supporting their own country in the possible case of a war outbreak.
